Emily's 'Voice' Journey Shouldn't Have Ended Yet

by Marenah Dobin

It's only going to get more difficult as this season of The Voice goes on. Tonight's eliminations really got down to the wire and this was the first time that the viewers had the opportunity to use an Instant Save on the artist of their choice. It came down to Emily Keener from Team Pharrell and Owen Danoff from Team Adam. To be honest with you, I cannot believe that Emily Keener was in the bottom two after she really killed it the night before. She got a standing ovation from all of the judges and Christina Aguilera deemed her performance the "best of the night so far." Unfortunately for her, Owen got the Instant Save on The Voice.

Owen did a great job with his take on the song "Seven Years," which I figured would take him to the next round since that is such a popular song right now, but I guess it wasn't enough for the viewers to prevent him from being at risk for elimination. Both of the artists had another chance to perform and impress the viewers with their vocal talents. Emily Keener sang "Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain" and Christina Aguilera said that she was "shocked" that Emily was in the bottom two and told the viewers that "she deserves to make it beyond this point." Christina is not even her coach, and she's saying this!

Owen Danoff performed the song "Lego House" and I'm not going to lie it really did sound like something that should be on the radio right now. He demonstrated that he can sound like a star and he had the crowd clapping along to the beat. Adam said that Owen "won the most difficult knockout round of the season against Ryan" and emphasized that he has "kept growing." Adam even went so far to ask the audience to "do him a favor" and send his team member forward to the Top 11.

After the performances the fate of both contestants was in the viewers' hands as they got to make the decision via tweet. It's crazy to think that two artists that got all four coach chairs to turn around at blind auditions were stuck in the bottom two. It came down to the wire, but Owen Danoff ended up making it to the next round.

It's pretty shocking that Emily got sent home, but I am sure that Owen will step up next week and do whatever he can to prove that he deserves to remain in the competition and represent Team Adam.
