You'll Want To Follow This New Instagram ASAP

by Julie Sprankles

Good news, everyone! Here's a morsel of info that'll indubitably start your week off right: Gloria Steinem just joined Instagram. In a sea of selfies, downward-facing shoe shots, and cat videos, who better to offer a healthy dose of Insta-piration than one of the most iconic feminists in history? (Not that there's anything wrong with any of those common Insta photos, of course, but sometimes you just want something a little different.) And given that Steinem's new documentary series, Woman, premieres on the Viceland network May 10, it's basically a sure bet that her Insta will include some seriously empowering sneak peeks.

ICYMI, Steinem's jump into the IG world puts her in good company. Lena Dunham, Matt McGorry, Laverne Cox, and Sarah Sophie Flicker are a few other feminists and progressives already using the popular social media platform as a vehicle for change and furthering important dialog about everything from the wage gap to transgender rights. As for Steinem, well, she's wasting no time giving the rest of us #lifegoals by doing what she does best: advocating for women the world over and just being a phenomenal human being in general.

Since joining, she's already 'grammed 19 times — each post offering something valuable to followers, whether it be motivation or a must-read book recommendation. So if you're looking to invigorate your IG feed, look no further. Here are a few of my favorite Steinem posts to get you started.

1. This Preview of Woman

There aren't enough words to describe just how much I'm looking forward to watching what will undoubtedly be a transformative narrative about the role women play in the world.

2. This Glimpse at Steinem's Work Space

One: I need that cross-stitch in my life. Two: Is there anything better than knowing Steinem's work space is just as beautifully chaotic as my own? I think not.

3. The Throwback to End All Throwbacks

Steinem was awarded a Keepers of the Dream Award by the National Action Network, and while expressing her gratitude for the honor, she gave a shout-out to her dear friend and fellow feminist, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes. This, my friends, is the very definition of squad goals.

4. The Hat Tip to Harriet Tubman

It's no surprise that Steinem is a vocal supporter of Harriet Tubman being added to American currency. She's so pumped about the change, in fact, that she's gunning for the swap to happen far sooner than it's planned to. Hear, hear!

5. This Personalized Statement Pin for Equal Pay Day

There is nothing about this I don't love. If Steinem had run for president (wishful thinking, le sigh), these would have made badass campaign pins.
