Beyonce's First Met Gala Dress Was Prom Goals

by Kali Borovic

Way before she was blessing her fans with Lemonade or wearing couture gowns in every video, Beyonce was just starting out as a fashion icon. Odds are you remember her all black bodysuit from the "Single Ladies" video, but you might not recall her Met Gala outfit from the same year. Although it was much more simple and colorful than her recent award show looks, Beyoncé's first ever Met Gala dress was serious prom goals. I'm talking full on mermaid style, slicked back updo, pop of color pretty.

To say that Queen Bey's style has changed a little over time would be an understatement. In just eight years, Beyoncé went from prom queen-esque to rocking barely there dresses and has seriously amped up her hairstyles. Her first Met Gala dress might have been her safest yet, but it was absolutely perfect for prom. Of course, not too many high schoolers can afford to even rent an Armani Privé gown, but you get where I'm going with this.

Just a month into her marriage with Jay-Z, the singer stepped out in a light pink, mermaid style gown with emerald green jewelry for the big night. She didn't need an army of stylists to follow her train or anyone to help her up the stairs. Beyoncé just posed for pictures with the same broken doll arm pose for every single shot. Remind you of prom, anyone?

The light pink gown was pretty much the silhouette of every prom goer since forever, but her bright green bedazzled accessories made the look stand out. Okay, so nothing will ever compare to her 2015 look (you know, the jeweled piece of gauze) but she sure did look pretty.

Everything from her light pink lip to her slightly winged eye was gorgeous. No first time fashion regrets here! Queen Bey even carried her own clutch at the event.

Without a doubt she must have been a tad bit nervous for her first Met Gala, but you can't go wrong with a classic shape and simple accessories. Everything about her look was timeless, minus the 2000s clutch.

Just for comparison, I'll throw in some of her more recent Met Gala style. She's transformed into a complete fashion icon over the years and these photos prove it.

How she goes from pretty in pink to this show stopping number, I might never know. She stuck with the same mermaid silhouette, but it was much more drastic.

She needed a little help getting up the steps though.

According to André Leon Tally, Beyoncé wasn't planning on going to the event that year, so this is what she puled together last minute. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Only Beyoncé could pull this stunning look off last minute.

Bright yellow dress, matching boots, and a studded belt? Yes, please. Queen Bey did not hold back in this Givenchy dress.

Gorgeous!

This might have been a little more simple than the other years, but the all-black outfit was one of my favorites.

The see-through train gave it a little something extra.

5. Met Gala 2015

This was her most recent Met Gala look and without a doubt the most daring. The barely there dress trend was in full swing, but the singer took it to another level.

She knew exactly which poses to hit too.

I can't wait to see what she wears this year!
