The Most Over The Top Outfits In Met Gala History

by Julia Musto

Every year, the Met Gala themes seem to provoke crazier and crazier celebrity ensembles. The best and most memorable Met Gala outfits are often the most over the top. There is no one figure better to fill us with a sense of shock and awe at the Met Gala than Sarah Jessica "Carrie Bradshaw" Parker, who pulls crazy fashion moves out of a hat or spins a wheel or something. Pretty much everything is fair game at this event: crazy Angelina Jolie legs, four-toned body suits, dresses that are just pieces of lace, et cetera. There are no real rules, and there is no shortage of rule-breakers.

Since the inception of the gala, the red carpet at the Met has been an outlet for trends, style, and designers worldwide. Some of the best actresses, models, and singers, flaunt their stuff for all to see. However, interpretation of the exhibit theme often varies from extremely literal to rather vague. This year, the theme is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.” Vogue reported that "The show will feature more than 100 pieces of fashion, both haute couture and ready-to-wear." My guess is that will translate to a lot of metallics and Daft Punk helmets.

However, until May 2, all fashion fans can do is look back at the most amazingly over the top outfits from the history of the event, and pray that this year be as crazy as the last.
