J. Lo's Met Gala Style Has Evolved Over The Years
In just a few days, celebrities, music icons, and members of the fashion elite will descend on New York City to attend the 2016 Met Gala, arguably one of the most important fashion events on the annual calendar. And because I'm already counting down the days until May 2, I thought it might be fun to break down style queen Jennifer Lopez's Met Gala looks over the years. Like Beyonce, the outfits she chooses never fail to be memorable and utterly fierce, no matter the theme of the event.
In case you haven't already heard, the theme this year is going to be "Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology." When asked about the inspiration behind the exhibit, Costume Institute Curator Andrew Bolton told Vogue , "Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made. But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other."
While the concept leaves a lot up for interpretation, history has proven that J. Lo, if she attends, will step up to the plate no matter what. Her attire has evolved significantly over the years, and in part shows how the gala itself has changed. Let's take a look at all of her Met Gala outfits from the past decade.
1. "China: Looking Through the Glass" 2015
Besides the fact that this dress is fierce AF, I applaud J. Lo's confidence as she shows some serious skin on the red carpet. This dress leaves very little to the imagination, and that's what makes it great, in addition to the craftsmanship and interpretation of the theme.
2. "Fashion Goes Punk" 2013
Love how her top knot was just as wild as her gown.
3. "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" 2011
J. Lo's stunning red gown with a bold shoulder piece made a statement at the 2011 gala. And check out that glow on her cheeks!
4. "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity" 2010
Decked out in bling from head to toe, J. Lo's 2010 dress was a true eye catcher.
5. "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" 2008
The singer flawlessly pulled off a classic "Old Hollywood" look for 2008's ball.
6. "Poiret: King of Fashion" 2007
This dress had a more conservative silhouette, but the metallic fabric and heavily embellished waist made it anything but subtle.
7. "AngloMania: Tradition and Transgression in British Fashion" 2006
Lopez kept it classic in 2006, but this dress remains timeless and elegant.
8. "Dangerous Liaisons: Fashion and Furniture in the 18th Century" 2004
Everything from Lopez's vintage braid to her red lip matches the 2004 theme, but this dress takes the classic black evening wear to a whole new level. And the back is equally as fierce.
Love the lace up!
I sure hope that she attends the 2016 gala, but aside from speculating, there's no way to predict exactly what she might wear if she goes.
