First, they found love in a hopeless place, and now they're apparently giving everyone what they came for. On Thursday night, Rihanna and Calvin Harris' new single "This Is What You Came For" dropped. Just like their 2011 song "We Found Love," these two have another hit on their hands that will be played all over the radio and at clubs constantly. And it could even be the song of summer 2016. But for now, let's talk about the lyrics. Who are Rihanna's "This Is What You Came For" lyrics about? They could be about Harris' girlfriend Taylor Swift. Or maybe, they're about someone in Rihanna's life.
Rihanna sings, "Baby, this is what you came for. Lightning strikes every time she moves. And everybody's watching her. But she's looking at you." Later on she sings, "We go fast 'til they can't replay. Who knows why it's gotta be this way. We say nothing more than we need. I say 'your place' when we leave."
She could seriously be singing about anyone and everyone, but Rihanna has been connected to several individuals recently who may very well be the inspiration behind her new song.
First, Rihanna may be singing about Drake. There's no denying their chemistry is on fire, especially in her "Work" music video, which features the rapper. They've been linked since 2009 with what has been described as an on-again, off-again relationship. Seriously, the rumors surrounding these two are hard to keep track of, so who knows if she's really singing about him or not.
In February 2016, while chatting with Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Rihanna confirmed she was single. "I'm single right now and it's not that I'm like, 'Oh, pro-single, yes, I hate men!'" she said. "I just think I have so much on my plate that I can't even find the time to entertain a steady relationship or anything serious. Or even a text."
Even if Rihanna is not in a relationship, that doesn't mean she can't sing about the Views rapper. The "This Is What You Came For Lyrics" definitely go with their complicated history, so Drake is a very likely candidate.
Next up is Leonardo DiCaprio, who has been linked to Rihanna on several occasions. Heck, they were even spotted at Coachella 2016. That said, neither have been very forthcoming about their status or history except for that time Rihanna denied dating DiCaprio in a March 2015 interview with Hello! magazine. After the magazine asked her, "How does Rihanna DiCaprio sound to you?" she replied, "It sounds to me like you should stay away from the blogs because they will screw you every time."
Whatever the case, the fact that the two keep ending up in the news and being spotted together randomly, well it sure seems like they have a connection — but one that isn't too serious.
I highly doubt she is singing about the Oscar-winnng actor, but, hey, you never know. Also, wouldn't that be glorious?
Another person Rihanna has been connected to is rapper Travis Scott. According to a September 2015 E! News report, a source said, "Travis and Rihanna are dating, officially. It's already very serious. He's very into her." I mean, that was in 2015, so things could've changed for Rihanna since then, especially considering all those rumors about Drake and DiCaprio and the fact that Rihanna told DeGeneres in February that she is single.
That said, HollywoodLife.com claims Rihanna is torn between Drake and Scott. A source said in March 2016, "Drake loves being around a bevy of woman while Rihanna‘s heart is with Travis Scott. She really wants to nurture that relationship; that’s why she really isn’t exploiting it. She’s letting it become something special. So that is where things stand between them all right now."
It still pretty much remains unclear who Rihanna's new single is about. Though, if I had to put my money on someone, it'd be Drake.
And with that, I'm now going to jam to Rihanna and Harris' new song without straining my brain over who she may or may not be singing about. I'm sure that's what she'd want, anyways.
