Why Did Kanye West Wear Blue Contacts To The 2016 Met Gala? His Music Inspired Him — PHOTOS

Sure, there were plenty of buzz-worthy moments on the red carpet this year, but Kanye West wearing blue contacts at the 2016 Met Gala definitely made the internet scratch its collective head in unison. So, why did the rapper and fashion designer change up his eye color for fashion's biggest night? Based on Yeezy-history, the contacts are inspired by his song "Wolves." West wore his custom blue lenses during a performance of the track on Saturday Night Live last year.

"He just wanted to have his eyes to be more like a wolf," optometrist Dr. Mitch Cassel said. "Something that would pop and be more identifiable, something different. But he didn’t want it to look too artificial.” For some reason, West brought the blue lenses back for this year's Met Gala, where he wore a beaded Balmain jacket that coordinated with Kim Kardashian's metallic silver dress.

The result is what could possibly be the power couple's take on Beauty and the Beast.
