Why Isn't Jay Z At The Met Gala?

After Beyoncé's Lemonade debuted with a reference to "Becky with the good hair," rumors of Jay Z's possible infidelity have been inescapable. On May 2, Queen Bey instantly made headlines when she walked the red carpet solo — and everyone is wondering why Jay Z isn't at the Met Gala with Beyoncé'? Although no reason has been given, let's not jump to any hasty conclusions. The couple was spotted enjoying dinner together in Miami over the weekend and, several days prior, Jay Z and Blue Ivy hung out and danced together backstage at Beyoncé's Formation Tour concert in Tampa.

Presumably the couple RSVP'd to the Met Gala before the "Becky with the good hair" drama ensued and Jay Z's absence could simply be the result of a scheduling conflict. When he chose not to attend, the pair may have had no idea that by May 2 the media would be abuzz with rumors of infidelity and a possible breakup. Sure, the Met Gala is a huge event (I'm still waiting for my chance to attend), but it's not exactly unheard of for a celebrity to walk a red carpet without his or her significant other.

Although it's human nature to wonder and speculate, we shouldn't let Jay Z's absence take the spotlight off Beyoncé. Lemonade has broken all sorts of records, further confirming Queen Bey's status as one of the most successful musicians of our generation — and she looks amazing and happy at the Met Gala. While I certainly hope a breakup isn't on the horizon, I think we can all rest assured that Beyoncé will shine on every red carpet, regardless of whether or not she has a date on her arm.
