The Weirdest 2016 Kentucky Derby Hats Are Not To Be Missed — PHOTOS
The Kentucky Derby might technically be all about the horses, but every fashion lover knows that the hats are one of the best parts of the event. Each year the accessories get more and more over the top, and this year definitely didn't disappoint. Whether you're joining in the fun or just looking to be entertained, this year's weirdest Kentucky Derby hats will instantly bring a smile to your face.
If you thought that Derby style was great in past years, just wait until you see all the hats that people wore in 2016. There was everything from pretty and practical to walking works of art as far as style goes for the event. While the headwear normally focusses on shading the Derby-watchers' eyes from the sun, there's no denying that some of these were a bit more fashionable than wearable. That's the fun of the long-standing tradition after all.
There's no theme for the event aside from, well, horses and hats, but this year it seemed to be all about looking the bright colors and bold textures. Here are all the crazy looks that will make you laugh out loud or scratch your head as you wait for the horses to sprint around the track.

When in doubt, just put every toy you've got on your hat.
2. Mascot Mask
That's one way to show team spirit, I guess.
3. Black And White Bird
Even the bird on the hat is wearing a hat. Now that's dedication.

How cool is this starting gate head topper?!

I'm loving these bright colors, but not exactly sure how the hat fits through doorways.
6. Flower Power
This one definitely won't help shade the sun, but it is pretty fabulous.
That is some serious art.
7. Rainbow Topper
If that's not a statement hat, then I don't know what is.
It's a whole different view from the back!
8. Portable Racetrack
Practical and trendy all in one big brimmed hat!
9. Oversized Petals
Okay, that's not even a hat. It's just one giant flower! Love it.
10. Peacocks Galore
Who needs a horse on your head when peacocks are so much trendier?
11. Rosey Brim
Roses are a staple for the derby, and this hat fits right in.
So stinkin' cool.
12. Bold Colored Toole
This hat is springtime ready for sure.
13. Mane-Inspired Crown
Weir sported the Rapunzel-like like faux braid on top of what looks like a crown inspired hat.
The brighter the better, I guess.

I have no words.

American pride meets Derby Day.
Well this is intense.
