Let's Revisit RiRi's First Billboard Awards Dress

by Sienna Fantozzi

She always manages to make a statement on the red carpet, so you know that Rihanna is going to kill it at this year's Billboard Music Awards — but since it's been ten years since her first appearance at the show (who else feels old now?), we should take a trip down memory lane and revisit Rihanna's first Billboard Music Awards dress. It definitely had a wow factor, but it's not something we'd probably see her in today. Can't believe how far she's come.

RiRi attended her first Billboard show back in 2006, where she won multiple awards, including Female Artist of the Year. NBD, right? An honor like that definitely requires a killer dress — and if we learned anything that year, it's that we can absolutely count on Rihanna for that. And she's never let us down in the style department since.

The singer wore a white, mini cocktail dress that was halter-style (and totally gave off Marilyn Monroe vibes), and paired it with some strappy sandals, a classic red lip, and wore her hair long, straight, and center-parted. It was the perfect way to make old Hollywood glam a little more fresh and modern, and she looked literally flawless.

It's so....girlie. Which isn't exactly what we'd expect from Rihanna today. She's far more edgy, and takes way more risks (like naked dresses, for example), but for her first Billboard show, you can't exactly call this tame.

And it looks even better with her awards.

I'm also totally digging her relaxed, boho hair with that red lip. It keeps it from looking too glam and over-the-top.

I highly doubt we'd see RiRi in something like this these days, but it just proves she's gotten more comfortable taking risks with fashion.

Regardless, this was adorable. I can't wait to see what she does at this years show!
