A Kanye x Payless Collab Might Be Happening

by Sienna Fantozzi

Whatever you feel about Kanye and his rants, something actually pretty cool came out of his latest one on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. According to Racked, the designer expressed his desire to work with Payless — so what's the deal? Is a Kanye West x Payless collaboration happening, or are Yeezys going to keep draining our bank accounts? Please, let this one be true.

You've probably heard by now about West's eight minute long rant on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, and if you tuned in for the whole thing, then you were probably pretty stoked (and maybe a little confused) to hear that he mentioned a desire to work with Payless. I mean, this is a guy that designs $3000 jackets, and though his Yeezy Boosts don't carry quite that high of a price tag, they retail at $200 — and that is still a far cry from Payless prices. So is Kanye really going to make the crazy popular shoe way more affordable and attainable?

Here's what he said on Ellen: "I remember going to school in 5th grade and wanting to have a cool outfit. I called the head of Payless. I’m like, I want to work with you. I want to take all this information that I’ve learned from sitting at all these fashion shows and knocking on all these doors and buying all these expensive clothes. And I want to take away bullying."

Honestly, that's a pretty legit intention, and I definitely admire that. While we have no official confirmation if this collab is going to happen, Racked is reporting that Payless confirmed Kanye had a phone conversation with its CEO, Paul Jones. Payless did not comment on whether a partnership will happen in the future, but a phone call is a step in the right direction. Affordable Yeezy Boosts might be coming, ladies and gents!
