Charlie White is messing with our heads and we don't like it. First he was shunning his real relationship with former ice skater Tanith Belbin to promote his faux-romance with ice dancing partner Meryl Davis to win favor with the judges. (How very Peeta and Katniss in the Hunger Games of them.) But now he's eschewing his pretend girlfriend Davis in favor of figure skater Ashley Wagner by walking into the Olympic Closing Ceremony with Wagner instead of Davis.
White and Davis won the ice dancing gold medal together after 17 years of being partners, a feat that White claimed was aided by the fact that they acted like such a unit that people thought they were actually dating. “Obviously, we get a lot of questions about whether the two of us are dating, and that’s a good thing, because that means we’re doing our job out on the ice,” he said. “Meryl and I are oftentimes trying to portray people who are in love.”
But now that the pretend-love secured their gold medal, White seems to have no interest in perpetuating the romance any further, and during the Olympic Closing Ceremony entered not with his partner, but with fellow figure skater Ashley Wagner. This twist threw a lot of viewers who were not happy to see that Davis and White weren't bonded off-ice anymore.
Someone tell White that the ceremony isn't over yet! President Snow could kill him and Davis if he doesn't perpetuate the romance and mollify the districts... wait, this isn't the Hunger Games. Still, White probably should have walked in with his winning partner and not another figure skater, right? We're all making this face at him now:
