What Does LA Being On Tactical Alert Mean?

by Emily Shire

On Wednesday, the University of California, Los Angeles campus was on lockdown following a shooting around 9:58 a.m. PT. A UCLA spokesperson confirmed that there were two victims. In addition, Los Angeles has been placed on tactical alert, but what exactly does that status entail?

When the LAPD issues a "tactical alert" it doesn't necessarily mean there's a massive crisis but it is certainly significant. According to an article in LA Weekly, a tactical alert "means all-hands have to be on-deck — nobody's going home early — because something serious is going down. It also means that lower priority calls — say, for example, a business dispute — are not responded to at all."

Update:The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that there are two deaths, and they are the result of a murder-suicide.
