Brie Larson Should Totally Play Captain Marvel

by Emily Lackey

Be still my heart! Is it possible that Brie Larson could play Captain Marvel in the next Marvel superhero movie slated to hit the big screen? Apparently so: Variety reported on Wednesday that Larson was in talks to play the role, saying that the Oscar-winning actress was “leaning toward playing the part.” And as far as that may be from a guarantee, my heart felt all aflutter at the news because, a.) I love Brie Larson, and b.) I’ve been following this Captain Marvel casting news with the close eye for years. Ever since the possibility of a Captain Marvel movie existed, I was secretly hoping that whoever was chosen to play the female superhero would be one badass chick. Which is why, when I heard that Brie Larson might play Captain Marvel, I thought of a bunch of reasons why it needed to happen.

Because even though it might be some time before we know for sure whether Larson will play the role, the fact that she is even reportedly in talks to be a part of this project has me all kinds of excited. If the news of her potentially playing the part has this kind of effect on me, then that is just one of the many reasons why this news needs to be true.

Another movie with Brie Larson? Yes, please.

2. She Kind Of Looks Like Her

I don’t want to get too into this comparison, but can’t you see it?

4. It Will Help Balance Out Her Career

With a number of indie and big titles to her recent resumé, a superhero movie sounds like the perfect way to really show that she can do anything.

5. She Can Show Off Her Leading Lady Skills

Because we all know she can carry a film.

6. It Might Mean More Marvel Movies For Larson

Marvel has reportedly wanted to sign an actress to this role early on so she could be introduced in an earlier Marvel film. What’s not to like about that?

7. It Could Mean A More Feminist Take On The Role

Picking an actress like Larson, who is known for her outspoken femin, might play much differently than picking someone who isn't.

8. She’s A Box Office Powerhouse

This girl is on fire right now. I’m sure Marvel will love that.

9. It Could Mean More Female Superhero Movies Will Be Made

With a box office shoe-in like Larson as Captain Marvel, studios might be motivated by the success of this movie to get behind more leading women as superheroes.

10. She Could Revive This Costume

I’m just sayin’. It’s a showstopper.

11. She Could Show Off Her Range Of Talents

It’s not all serious roles for Larson. With a superhero movie under her belt, she really will be able to say she’s played them all.

12. It Would Mean Larson Wasn’t Going Anywhere Anytime Soon

With multiple appearances in Marvel movies and a long-term production plan for this film, it means we’d have Brie Larson movies to look forward to for years to come.

13. She Would Join One Heck Of A Female-Led Project

With two female writers already on board, the only thing this film would need is a director. I’m crossing my fingers that Marvel makes it a female-led film entirely. Now that would really make a statement.

So let’s just cross all of our fingers that this casting news comes true. I can’t think of anything that would revive my faith in Hollywood more than Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.
