Twitter Reacts To Beyonce's Fashion Icon Award Win

by Kali Borovic

This year's CFDA Awards was full of surprises. The Olsen Sisters showed up together (and smiling) Alicia Silverstone attended looking like Cher Horowitz, and Beyonce won The Fashion Icon Award. If you're wondering why that last one fits into the "surprise" category, then your not alone. According to Twitter, not everyone though she was super deserving of the award. Don't worry though, the Beyhive's got her back.

Looking completely gorgeous in her striped Givenchy suit and wide brimmed hat, Beyonce showed up with Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy to accept the prestigious award. So you can imagine my surprise when some people took to Twitter saying that she didn't deserve the honor. The singer has always had quite the knack for dressing, but hit a sartorial high note in 2016 with her Lemonade visual album outfits. Plus there's the fact that she recently launched her Ivy Park line, filled with classic athleisure staples and statement pieces.

When looking at the previous winners, I guess people do have a point though. Previous winners include Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and even Pharrell, who have all walked the red carpet wearing completely wild, fashion forward looks (must I remind you of the meat dress?). While Beyonce always manages to look great, she tends to draw her inspiration more from the past rather than creating new trends herself.

People might have been torn about her CFDA win, but her acceptance speech got everyone's attention. In it, she talked about the struggles she's gone through with fashion and how clothes impacted her identity. Here's what people had to say about her big win.

Word.

One cannot simply take a photo of Queen Bey.

The Beyhive has spoken.

In the words of Queen Bey herself, "Y'all haters corny..."

Say what you will about the award, but no one can deny her awesome speech.

An all around icon.

Valid point.

Still some excitement in there.

Say what you will, but there's no denying the power of Beyonce.
