Amber Heard's Ex-Girlfriend Releases A Statement

by Allyson Koerner

On Tuesday, TMZ released a report stating that Amber Heard was allegedly arrested for domestic violence committed against her now ex-girlfriend Taysa van Ree in 2009. At the time of the report, Bustle reached out to Heard's lawyer for comment, but did not receive an immediate response. On Wednesday, Heard's ex-girlfriend released a statement (via JustJared.com) regarding the domestic violence claims. It reads in its entirety:

In 2009, Amber was wrongfully accused for an incident that was misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position. I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which later appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just “friends.” Charges were quickly dropped and she was released moments later. It’s disheartening that Amber’s integrity and story are being questioned yet again. Amber is a brilliant, honest and beautiful woman and I have the utmost respect for her. We shared 5 wonderful years together and remain close to this day.

TMZ claims law enforcement sources and documents show Heard and van Ree argued at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Sept. 1, 2009. Heard reportedly grabbed van Ree and then struck in her on the arm. Heard was then allegedly arrested and booked for misdemeanor domestic violence, TMZ claims. According to the site, the prosecutor dropped the case, but the judge made Heard aware the prosecutor could always refile within the two-year statute of limitations.

Van Ree's statement and the domestic violence claims come only a short time after Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp and was granted a domestic abuse restraining order against him.

According to People, in response to the restraining order, Depp's lawyer claimed, "Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse."

Depp's lawyer also released the following statement to People about other rumors surrounding his divorce from Heard, prior to Heard filing the restraining order:

Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.
