The New ‘Fantastic Beasts' Poster Is So Revealing

by Emily Lackey

Every day feels like one long countdown to when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them finally premieres. As I sit and wait not-so-patiently for the adventures of Newt Scamander to hit theaters everywhere in November 2016, I’ve been clinging to every new sign that comes my way that the movie is going to be amazing. And the new Fantastic Beasts poster that was released on Monday is definitely a good sign. There is a lot that we now know about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them thanks to this new poster. So much that the image itself feels a little bit like a spoiler.

Not that I’m complaining. With very little information being released about the new movie —aside from an amazing trailer and first-look photos — this new image feels like just enough to cling to and analyze in the meantime. Especially since the poster contains a very telling image of New York City. Not only does the image show an older New York skyline (which makes sense for a movie that promises a whole new era of wizarding and is set in 1920s New York City), it shows a crumbling New York City skyline. Redmayne stands tall among the destroyed façade of a brick building, clutching his infamous suitcase — the one he carries his fantastic beasts in — and illuminated wand.

That wreckage might not look like much upon first glance, but, given the fact that Redmayne is standing in the middle of it with his wand looking like it just cast some sort of spell, there’s a lot in that image that suggests just what we can expect from this movie. Like the fact that it is going to be extremely action-packed. Even for a Harry Potter movie, fans can bank on a lot of excitement in this latest edition. Not to mention it will be excitement set among the wizarding world an American city.

And the havoc that those beasts and that wand are likely to wreak on New York is going to be a visual feast for sure. Not only that, but, considering this is a character who was kicked out of Hogwarts (Newt Scamander was evicted from the wizarding school for allegedly endangering human lives), you can be sure that whatever wizarding activities he engages in are going to be thrilling. If this poster doesn’t get you excited for Fantastic Beasts, then seeing Eddie Redmayne in Hufflepuff colors definitely will.

So brace yourselves, Potter fans. This movie is going to be a thrilling one.
