The Liars May Kill Someone In 'PLL' Season 7
Post-time jump Rosewood is something of a brave new world — the characters have only grown darker and twistier with age, and anything is fair game. It seems the same goes for Season 7, as a trailer shows Spencer, Emily, and Aria digging what could very well be a shallow grave. But is that actually what's happening? Will the Liars kill someone on Pretty Little Liars this season?
It would certainly stand to reason — after all, can you think of any other explanation for Emily sobbing, "I don't know if I can live with this," while Spencer reply-screams, "There is no other way, Emily!" all as they're literally digging a giant hole in the ground? The final nail in the coffin comes as we catch a glimpse of a blonde hung up in the rafters of Rosewood's primo murder spot (aka the bell tower), cut together with Spencer intoning, "It was a well-thought-out plan. When it ends like this, it's called murder." Chilling, right?
However, after watching the new sneak peek featuring Jessica DiLaurentis' mysterious evil twin, Mary Drake, I'd hazard a guess that the blonde hanging from the bell tower is some kind of Hanna decoy. It stands to reason, since the clip features the Liars receiving a text from A.D. reading, "The bell tolls for Hanna." Of course, it could really be Hanna, but I seriously doubt that she'll die for real, at least not this early in the season.
But even if you take the bell tower body out of the equation, there's a very real possibility that the Liars will kill someone in Season 7. After all, this would be far from the Liars' first kill. They came very close to killing Ian Thomas back in Season 2, Emily stabbed Nate (aka Lyndon James) in Season 3, and Aria bludgeoned Shana Fring in Season 5. All of those were acts of self defense, of course, but that may not be the case this time around.
Pretty Little Liars is, after all, a darker show now, and I could certainly see on of the Liars killing someone as a sort of pre-emptive strike (which is probably a couple of degrees murkier on the morality scale than flat-out self defense). It all lines up with what Spencer says in the trailer about a plan gone wrong.
Add all that to the fact that showrunner I. Marlene King told Variety, "The stakes are the highest they’ve ever been in Rosewood, regarding the Liars and A.D./Uber A ... Because of that, there are a lot of consequences and fatalities" and said in a spoiler video that the Liars will make the biggest mistake of their lives in Season 7, and a Liar-committed murder is looking more and more likely. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be surprised if Spencer, the most morally grey Liar of them all, killed someone — especially if she thought she was protecting her friends. I could also see Caleb committing a murder in order to #SaveHanna...
Luckily, we won't have to wait too long to find out since Pretty Little Liars returns on June 21. Let's just hope that by the time Season 7 is over, all of the Liars have not only survived, but managed to stay out of jail.
