This YA Novel Is The Next To Hit The Big Screen

by Emma Oulton

The much-hyped Our Chemical Hearts hasn't even hit bookshelves yet, but already we have exciting news: an Our Chemical Hearts movie is very much in the works. The book itself, by Australian author Krystal Sutherland, is due to be published in the U.S. on October 4 by Penguin Random House — and even though it's not out yet, it's already caused quite the stir. Our Chemical Hearts will be Krystal Sutherland's debut novel, but already she's being compared to YA literary legends like John Green and Rainbow Rowell. Not bad!

Our Chemical Hearts is about a boy called Henry Page: a hopeless romantic who's never been in love. Grace Town, who walks with a cane, wears oversized clothes, and rarely showers, definitely isn't the dream girl he imagined — but when they are both chosen to edit the school paper, it doesn't take long for him to start falling for her.

It sounds like this novel is going to tug on a lot of heartstrings — and it certainly captured a lot of hearts over at Awesomeness Films, the company that will be producing the Our Chemical Hearts film. The president of Awesomeness Films, Matt Kaplan, was full of praise for Krystal Sutherland, calling her a "breakout young writer, whose voice uniquely captures the emotional journey of falling in love for the first time.”

So basically, Krystal Sutherland is living proof that author's dreams can come true. Not only is she getting a book published amongst a lot of hype (no easy feat!), Our Chemical Hearts is getting a movie to boot. Congrats, Krystal! I can't wait to get my hands on this love story.
