Pharrell's Hat Gets A New Owner

by Lia Beck

Huge update for anyone who's been following Pharrell Williams' headwear choices recently — Pharrell sold his hat to Arby's for $44,100 on eBay! Now Pharrell likely owns several hats, but I'm talking about the large, brown Vivienne Westwood-designed hat that Pharrell wore to the Grammys earlier this year. Of course, you already knew that because it is the only hat that matters. Even though it's really just an oversized hat that doesn't pair well with a red track jacket, this hat really got people talking. It also got someone talking on behalf of the hat seeing as it has it's own Twitter account.

After seeing how much buzz it created, Pharrell listed the hat on eBay on Feb. 20 with all of the proceeds benefitting his charity, From One Hand To Another. A description of the charity on the eBay listing reads,

All proceeds benefit From One Hand to Another whose mission is to help change the world one kid at a time by giving them the tools and resources to meet their unique potential and empower them to nurture curiosity by learning through new technologies, arts, media and motivation.

Pharrell created From One Hand to Another in 2008.

It's awesome that Arby's ended up winning the hat for a few reasons. For one, they're a large company so obviously they have the money to make a generous charitable donation. For two, the hat looks exactly like the Arby's logo. Lastly, and most importantly, Pharrell dared them to buy the hat when the listing went up.

Arby's took him up on the offer and now $44,100 is going to a great cause. As for what they'll do with the hat, my suggestion is allowing employee of the month at Arby's headquarters to borrow it as a sign of their reign. Pharrell, on the other hand, probably won't miss it too much. On Sunday night's Oscars we found out he has another one in black.
