How To Maintain Glowy Skin In The Summer

by Melanie Richtman

I don't know about you, but I have always been after glowy, dewy skin, especially when summer hits and I want to spend the least amount of time possible getting ready every day when I know my perfectly applied foundation will melt off my face within minutes of stepping outside. The key to wearing less makeup in the summer is to cultivate a good skincare routine, so your complexion will glow from the inside out. But how do you get glowy, dewy, summery skin?

If you're striving for glowing skin à la Gigi Hadid or the latest supermodel du jour, you have to put in some effort ahead of time, rather than just hoping your "moisturizing" makeup will do the trick (in my experience, it doesn't, although it doesn't hurt the cause). There are plenty of things you can do to help achieve the glow you desire, but you have to be willing to take the necessary steps. You must commit to your new skincare routine, but just imagine how nice it will be to wake up on summer mornings, roll out of bed, and not have to put on a drop of foundation (unless, of course, you thoroughly enjoy putting on foundation)! Since I am very lazy and low maintenance when it comes to beauty, I love the idea of this.

Bustle spoke with the "Glow Gurus" at Massage Envy and they gave us five important tips to get that glowy, dewy skin you want this summer.

1. Hydrate

Sometimes the best advice is the simplest. "Staying hydrated helps your body function at its most optimal level, allowing your cells to communicate effectively and perform the functions of a healthy life," explains The Glow Gurus. So drink your daily dose of water to get one step closer to your glow.

2. Wear Sunscreen

The most obvious one on the list, but arguably the most important. For the millionth time, wear sunscreen. Your 50-year-old self will thank you for it.

"Wearing a daily SPF 30 helps prevent sun damage, which appears in the form of uneven skin tone (hyperpigmentation), and fine lines and wrinkles," they say. "Exposure to the sun activates natural enzymes in your skin that can degrade collagen, causing your skin to lose its firmness and youthful appearance."

3. Get A Hydrating Serum

Add a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid, like Murad's Sensitive Skin Soothing Serum, to you routine to keep your skin moist and plump.

4. Start Using An Antioxidant Treatment

An antioxidant treatment with vitamin C will make your skin absolutely radiant, helping fight damage from free radicals. Try Murad's Advanced Active Radiance Serum.

5. Get Regular Facials

There's a reason people get facials — they work. You can work with your esthetician to find the perfect facial for all of your skincare needs, leaving you with glowy, dewy, summery skin.
