Drake Went Down Memory Lane On Instagram

by Caitlyn Callegari

Drake has never been afraid to get into his feelings and share them with the world. After all, it's his vulnerability that makes him who he is. Well, in addition to his abounding talent, of course. But, that unabashed realness makes him, and his music, particularly appealing. So, in keeping with his truly genuine nature, Drake posted an Instagram of a letter he wrote to his mom when he was just starting out. The amusing note shows his mom's unconditional support and his once very real dependence on her, but more than that, it shows how far the musician has come.

Drake wrote in the caption on the snapshot of the handwritten letter, "eBay was the addiction back in 2006. Def come a long way and it's safe to say I most likely settled this debt. #NothingWithoutMyMom #IProbablyBoughtSomeEvisuJeans."

While his pride over his humble beginnings is commendable, the letter itself is something to truly revel at. When reading it, you should probably keep in mind that these were the words of someone who was edging on mega success, and despite the hardship he was facing, he knew it. His confidence in his assurance that he'd be able to pay his mother back is nothing short of inspirational. In the letter, Drake wrote an IOU to his mother.

Dear Mom,

I have cancelled the WireImage subscription due to my eBay charges coming to more than I had planned for. Please know that you will [be] reimbursed fully through several methods and or means of payment. Thanks for temporarily funding my music and wardrobe.

The best part? The Degrassi alum signed it, "Your biz partner." Be cuter, young Aubrey Graham. I dare you.

The inclusion of the word "temporarily" is what really struck me. It's obvious that he has always had the utmost faith in himself and his abilities and that has never wavered. Case in point, the letter wasn't the only stop on his trip down memory lane. The rapper posted a promotional picture of himself from his first tour, saying, "My first show ever. Now Summer Sixteen Tour is 3 days away." Little by little, he made his dreams come true.

In the words of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Eliza Schuyler-Hamilton, "Look at where you are, look at where you started..." Drake's Instagram reminiscing is both endearing and entertaining, but most of all, it proves how downright impressive his career is now.
