His Weird Cat/Murder Movie Was Just Bought

by Alanna Bennett

Hey, it's been a while since we've seen Ryan Reynolds. Remember when he was one the most in-demand names Hollywood? Is he mainly Blake Lively's husband now? How the times have changed since Green Lantern. Anyway, a new Ryan Reynolds-starring movie, The Voices , just got distribution. So, what's it about? Well let's just say those "voices" are homicidal house pets speaking to their human, Ryan Reynolds, and that this movie is a little offbeat.

The movie is directed by Marjane Satrapi, the author/illustrator/director behind Persepolis and Chicken With Plums. Here's the story according to IMDb:

This genre-bending tale centers around Jerry Hickfang, a lovable but disturbed factory worker who yearns for attention from a woman in accounting. When their relationship takes a sudden, murderous turn, Jerry's evil talking cat and benevolent talking dog lead him down a fantastical path where he ultimately finds salvation.

I'm just gonna blow right past the fact that Reynolds' character's last name is Hickfang to tell you that Anna Kendrick is also in this movie.

The film premiered at Sundance and has now been swooped up by Lionsgate for distribution. Basically what this means is you'll likely be seeing this odd movie in theaters at some point in the not horrendously far future, and that it will be an interesting moment in Ryan Reynolds' career trajectory, perhaps akin to Ryan Gosling's turn in Lars and the Real Girl, but with more cats and homicide.
