Here's What Happens At Level 40 In "Pokemon Go"

"Pokemon Go" has gripped the globe for a few solid weeks now, so it was only a matter of time before some wisenheimer went and figured out a way to win. To be clear, that person wasn't me — however, I can tell you what happens when you reach Level 40 in "Pokemon Go," thanks to a Reddit user by the name of _problemz who has apparently reached the Pokemon pinnacle. Before you start beating yourself up and examining the life choices that made you a Pokemon loser, though, you should know they definitely used a bot to cheat their way to the top. Either way, there's much to learn from this victory.

As of right now, Level 40 is the highest obtainable level in the augmented reality game. There's speculation that level cap could be lifted in the future but for now, 40 is the point at which you become an unparalleled Pokemon Trainer. And, you know, master of the universe, if that's your thing. Naturally, "Pokemon Go" doesn't make it easy to get to that point. After all, if someone wants bragging rights for the rest of their life, they should have to work for it a little — and in this case, that means accumulating 20 million XP (5 million of which are required just for the leveling up you need to go from 39 to 40).

Reddit user _problemz accomplished this by using a bot to test the capabilities of "Pokemon Go." By employing 131 Lucky Eggs and averaging around 280,000 XP per hour, they reached Level 40 and immediately sought to share the love-slash-knowledge with the Reddit community. "First of all, I want to tell you that I was using a Bot," they explained in a lengthy post on the r/PokemonGo subreddit. "Obviously I don't want to tell you how to use a bot and won't answer anything related to that ... I don't play this game — I just wanted to see how far I can push with the given Tools. And I learned so much out of this." So did we, bruh, so did we. Like, for instance, what exactly reaching Level 40 will earn you. And if I'm really being honest, it's not nearly as spectacular as I envisioned in my Pokecoin-covered dreams.

Here's the rundown of Level 40 spoils:

  • 40 Ultraballs
  • 40 Razz Berries
  • 4 Incenses
  • 4 Lucky Eggs
  • 4 Lure Models
  • 4 egg incubators
  • bragging rights for life

Aside from that last item, this list isn't particularly remarkable. Now, to _problemz' credit, they adamantly encourage true lovers of the "Pokemon Go" universe to play the game the legit way — by fighting in gyms and taking the time to do all of the other things required to become an authentic Pokemon Master. So there is the very slight chance that when someone does reach Level 40 through their own merits alone, they could very well receive a different rewards package based on their journey in the game.

But, but, but ... what about the legendary Pokemon that have yet to be revealed? I thought at least reaching the pinnacle of "Pokemon Go" might result in at least one of these elusive creatures surfacing. Alas, that does not seem to be the case. Bustle has reached out to _problemz for comment and will update the post if we hear back. Perhaps they have a few secret spoils up their sleeve yet.
