Here's Why The Olympians Were In Rain Ponchos

by Kali Borovic

The Rio Olympics Closing Ceremony featured plenty of exciting accessories, but there was one that caught most people's eye and wouldn't let go — the ponchos. Many Olympians wore the clear rain protectors over their outfits, proving that nothing would stop them from having a great time. They might have been soaking wet, but the photos show just how happy they were to be at the event.

While some people stepped out in track suits and designer duds, some Olympians were a little less stylish at the Closing Ceremony. OK they still looked great in their team-issued gear, but the ponchos did get in the way a little bit. Of course, not everyone wore the clear pullover jackets, but a large group of Olympians did sport the layer of protection from the elements. Rain or shine, these Olympians were still all smiles as they walked through the stadium.

According to Weather.com, it was 66 degrees and rainy in Rio, Brazil at the time of the event. I guess even Mother Nature was sad that the Olympics were coming to an end. Poncho or no poncho, these athletes weren't letting anything get in there way of celebrating their accomplishments. Just look at them.
