Don't Miss A Moment Of The 2016 VMAs

One of the many great things about watching the MTV Video Music Awards is that you never quite know what to expect. Will it spark a celebrity feud that will make the world very much want to be part of this narrative? Will two music greats surprisingly lock lips like Britney and Madonna back in 2003? Anything is possible during this magical night of television, so trust me when I say you aren't going to want to miss a moment of any of the action. And as a way to keep that from happening, it's important to know just how long the 2016 VMAs are, so you can plan your bathroom and snack run breaks accordingly.

The official MTV VMA schedule states that the pre-show festivities will kick off at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 28, covering a wide range of red carpet interviews and fashions. Then the actual ceremony itself will immediately follow at 9 p.m. ET and last until 11:45 p.m. ET, so it's definitely going to be a busy night. It's also worth noting that the award show will air again immediately after the live viewing, so if for some reason you do happen to miss something, you can always catch it again on the second go-round. But we all know that watching live is usually the best way to watch anything, so if you need a little more incentive to stay tuned throughout the entire evening, keeping these things in mind...

Kanye Will Be There

An official spokesperson for MTV has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Yeezy will definitely be attending the ceremony, which means you can expect, at the very least, some highly amusing and memorable quotes. Maybe we'll even get an update on his plans to run for president in 2020.

Rihanna Is Performing

That in and of itself is a reason to tune in, but according to what executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic recently told Entertainment Weekly, the iconic singer will be accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award not with a speech, but through the power of song. And according to him, it's going to be "one of those holy crap VMA moments" that you simply have to see firsthand. Count us in.

It's Britney, B*tch

Miss Spears is making her grand return to the VMA stage. What are the odds some kind of reptile will accompany her?

The Ceremony Is Taking Place At Madison Square Garden

This is the first time in the show's history to have MSG as its venue of choice. Just imagine what these performers will be able to do now that they have this historic stage at their disposal. It's going to be a night none of us will ever want to forget. And if that's not enough of an incentive to tune for the two-hour and 45-minute show, then I don't know what is.
