Where Is Miley Cyrus During The 2016 VMAs?

It's hard to image the MTV VMAs without Miley Cyrus in attendance. If she isn't on stage twerking with a giant teddy bear next to Robin Thicke, I at least want to see some extended cutaways of the "Wrecking Ball" singer in the audience. But while we've gotten lucky in past years, it seems that in 2016 our luck has finally run out. Miley Cyrus is not at the 2016 MTV VMAs, so where the heck is she?

Thankfully, the 23-year-old songstress posted to Instagram hours before the show began to let her fans know exactly why she's skipping MTV's biggest night. In an adorable photo featuring Miley and man's best friend, the singer is seen in workout clothes — a hot pink sports bra and sweats covered in a delicious ice cream bar print — being kissed by one of her pooches. She captioned the photo: "Sorry I can't make it to the VMAzzz I am toooo busy at home doing yoga & making out w my dogs!" complete with a tongue, heart, and peace sign emojis.

While her presence will surely be missed — surely other performers won't be nearly as fun or controversial — her excuse for missing the show is admittedly a good one. Yoga? Dogs? Sweat pants? Miley Cyrus knows how to do the award show right: watching from the comfort of her own home.
