The US Gymnastics Team Ruled the 2016 VMAs

by Lindsay Denninger

Regular people like you and I were home all summer long eating pad thai and watching the Olympics and crying when the Final Five clinched the gold medal for women’s team gymnastics. Or was it me who was just crying? In any case, the whole world was cheering for Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Laurie Hernandez, and Madison Kocian in Rio, and that includes celebrities, too. The Final Five got invited to the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, and so many famous people wanted to take pictures with them.

I mean, it’s not really a surprise. These five wonderful women showed some serious athletic prowess in Rio, and they made their way onto a box of Special K — that’s a big deal. They got invited to present an award at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, but it seemed like they didn’t make it 10 feet before the other famous people on the red carpet and backstage started asking them for selfies. How trippy do you think that is for the Final Five? They’re at the VMAs, and last year, they were probably at home watching the VMAs. They’re talking to Fifth Harmony, and they were probably listening to Fifth Harmony before competitions! Here are some of the celebrities that asked for snaps.

Celebrities — they really are just like us! They want to take pictures with famous athletes, too. It’s pretty cool that the Final Five are having such a good time with their newfound fame. I’m sure that many more celebrities will be taking selfies with these five ladies all night long, and they’ll get the bragging rights of the VMAs. Will Beyoncé stop and take a snap with them? I bet Blue Ivy will want a picture with the Final Five, don’t you?
