Kelly Clarkson Celebrates Her 'Idol' Anniversary

by Caitlyn Callegari

14 years ago on this very day, I waited with baited breath to hear the results of the first ever American Idol competition, after dialing my little fingers off the night previous. It was a harrowing moment, one that I still to this day remember with stomach clenching certainty. But, you know, I'm sure the moment was just a tad more nerv wracking for the people actually experiencing it. Like, you know, the winner herself. Case in point, Kelly Clarkson tweeted about the 14th anniversary of her American Idol crowning on Sunday with a sense of appreciation and humility that hasn't wavered one bit in all that time. You guys, Clarkson is just the best, most down-to-earth celebrity there is, and her tweet more than proves it.

The wildly successful singer commemorated the major milestone by not only looking back, but forward. In 140 characters, Clarkson managed to perfectly sum up her feelings on her triumphant career, which is still filled with major milestones today. She wrote, "14 yrs ago 2day @AmericanIdol opened a door w/such amazing opportunities & experiences 4 me! I am 4ever grateful & blessed! #heresto14more." I don't know about you, but the improper usage of grammar to get all of her bubbling over gratitude to fit makes the sentiment that much sweeter.

Though I was only 11 years old when I heard Clarkson belt "A Moment Like This" through tears, deep breaths, and what was probably an acute case of shock, when I look back on all of the hits she's had over the years and the success she's achieved, it actually doesn't seem like a significant amount of time at all. Clarkson has accomplished so much in such a short time, and she knows as well as we do that there's still so much more to come.

Keep singing, Kelly.
