Are Beautyblenders Cruelty-Free?

As a vegan gal who is going through the process of curating a cruelty-free makeup bag, I was curious to discover, are Beautyblenders cruelty-free? Because nothing is more beautiful than a product that you can use with a clear conscience. Considering the popularity of Beautyblenders, I'd like to think that their existence didn't come at the cost of another being's suffering.

The term "cruelty-free" can at first, appear quite perplexing. According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), "Companies listed either signed PETA’s statement of assurance or provided a statement verifying that they do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and that they pledge not to do so in the future." PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program makes it easy to find products that aren't tested on animals. If you're unsure if a product is cruelty-free – and you can't spot a cruelty-free bunny logo on the packaging – you can search for the company on PETA's Beauty Without Bunnies online database.

However, if you're a vegan and/or a self-confessed animal lover, you might be wondering if "cruelty-free" products contain any animal-derived ingredients. Tashina Combs, a cruelty-free and vegan beauty and lifestyle blogger, and creator of Logical Harmony wrote, "...cruelty free items aren’t truly animal friendly. They often contain ingredients that require the death of an animal to produce – a process that’s hardly cruelty free." So I endeavoured to discover if Beautyblenders are really cruelty-free.

With Beautyblenders, my gut feeling was that they must be cruelty-free, because in essence, they are sponges which are likely fairly safe to test on humans. Although I don't personally know how Beautyblender test their products, I did stumble across the original Beautyblender on Cruelty Free Kitty's roundup of beauty tools from cruelty-free brands, which was a great start to my journey of discovery.

After scouring the FAQ section of the Beautyblender website, I was disappointed to see there was no information about whether their products are cruelty-free. But I discovered that their blenders (and canisters they come in) are made from 100 percent recyclable material, so they can be easily disposed of at home. With that in mind, I reached out directly to Beautyblender in order to get the lowdown on their cruelty-free status. I was pleasantly surprised at the responsiveness of the Beautyblender team and their fabulous product knowledge, however I was unable to get a public comment on Beautyblender's official cruelty-free stance and at the time of writing, I have not (as of yet) received a response.

Turning my attention back to Logical Harmony, an award winning blog that centers around vegan beauty and lifestyle topics, I discovered their regularly-updated list of cruelty-free brands. Low and behold, Beautyblender was on the list and was classified as a 100 percent vegan brand, which was definitely a sight for sore eyes! Not only did they feature on this rad list, the aforementioned Logical Harmony Founder and Editor in Chief Tashina Combs, uses Beautyblenders regularly. Combs even created a YouTube video showing the world her cruelty-free and vegan Beautyblender collection.

Vegans and animal lovers will be so happy to know that Beautyblenders are cruelty-free in every sense of the word. So don't worry, the Beautyblender is one product you certainly don't have to ditch in order to be kind to the animals!
