17 Movies You'd Never Think Are Full Of Dirty Jokes But Are Absolutely Filthy
There is something I must admit: I am very naive, and I always have been. If someone makes a dirty joke in front of me, there is at least a 50 percent chance that it will go straight over my head and send me to the Internet for research. As I've gotten older, my naiveté has slowly begun to fade, and that, coupled with my growing nostalgia for movies I loved as a kid, has allowed me to finally get all kinds of dirty jokes — ones I never knew existed. It turns out, a lot of movies you'd never think are full of dirty jokes are flat out filthy. And those are just the ones with jokes my still naive brain understands.
Some of the movies on this list of 17 movies you'd never think are full of dirty jokes are a bit more obvious than others. But, as far as I'm concerned, they're still shockingly on the wrong side of proper. Yes, Bring It On is a teen comedy, but it's not all about sex or R-rated, so how was I supposed to know I was cheering about sex and not the Toros? But, whether you were surprised at the dirty jokes in these movies or not, I'm willing to bet that they taught you a thing or two about R-rated humor.
Shrek actually taught me the joke "Do you think he's compensating for something?"
2. Iron Man
Looking back, it was foolish of me to expect anything less than dirty jokes from Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, but at the time, most superhero movies had been made for kids — idealistic, hopeful, and non-sexual. The Iron Man series was the first (and so far, the only) superhero series to really nail the whole playboy hero thing. And that means balancing a healthy amount of dirty jokes with super stunts.
3. Bring It On
Bring It On is probably one of the dirtiest teen comedies out there without an R-rating. The movie literally features a male cheerleader fingering a female cheerleader in public. I did not understand this until embarrassingly recently.
It seems like every time I watch Clueless, I learn a new dirty joke hidden in Cher's journey to self-discovery. (My favorite remains the joke about "balls fly at your nose.")
5. 10 Things I Hate About You
10 Things I Hate About You is actually pretty tame in terms of dirty jokes. None of the characters are really having sex, and there's no explicit attempts form a character to lose his or her virginity as part of the plot. Still, 10 Things I Hate About You has more dirty jokes than I realized.
6. Charlie's Angels
OK, when Charlie's Angels was released in 2000, it was marketed towards tweens and teenagers — and it worked. Charlie's Angels was a huge hit among the 15 and under set, yours truly included. It also definitely should not have been. Charlie's Angels is literally full of dirty jokes so explicit, it's shocking that I emerged from the movie theater thinking the movie was just about three awesome spies.
Grease features some pretty sexy lyrics — "Grease Lightning" anyone? — but it also features some not-so-funny rape jokes that I definitely didn't realize were there when I was younger.
8. Sixteen Candles
Sixteen Candles looks like an innocent movie about first love, but the number of dirty jokes in the movie suggests otherwise.
9. Toy Story
Because your toys don't just come alive when you're not there, they fall in love and kiss too.
When you hire Robin Williams, you can expect a few NSFW jokes, and Aladdin got more than a few from this Genie. Not only that, but Aladdin also features heart-patterned boxer shorts, and Jafar literally turning Jasmine into a sex slave. Talk about dirty (and disturbing).
11. To Be or Not To Be
Ernst Lubitsch's 1942 classic, To Be or Not To Be, was made in the era of Hollywood censors, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its fair share of dirty jokes. The comedy, about a group of actors who end up in the middle of a hunt for a German spy during the Nazi occupation of Poland, does a good job of jumping around the censors to deliver some truly excellent dirty jokes.
12. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
Scott Pilgrim isn't the dirtiest movie you'll ever see, but some of it is still pretty out there.
13. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes stars Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe as two best friends traveling on a cruz, so, yeah, it's pretty sexy, and, yes, it's also full of dirty jokes.
14. Guardians of the Galaxy
No doubt inspired by Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy is basically a combination of superhero action, Infinity Stone mythology, and dirty jokes. I never thought I'd watch a movie about a raccoon with a dirty mind, and yet.
15. Road To El Dorado
I mean. What is even happening here?
16. The Hunchback Of Notre Dame
I'm not really sure if this counts as dirty jokes, but Quasimodo's obsessive lusting after Esmeralda is pretty dirty when you think about it. Stalker alert.
17. New York Minute
New York Minute was one of Mary Kate and Ashley Olson's last movies together. It was also supposed to be a more grown-up Mary Kate and Ashley film, hence its release in theaters and dirty jokes about a threesome with twins.
Here's to all the movies that corrupt our minds and steal our hearts.
