Obama Is Not A Fan Of The Oscar Selfie

by Lia Beck

The President of the United States is a pretty busy guy, but somehow even with all the other issues he has to deal with, he still finds time to be jealous of the popularity of Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar selfie. On The Ellen Show Thursday, President Obama called Ellen's Oscar selfie a "cheap stunt." Before the selfie that broke Twitter came around, Obama held the record for most retweets with a photo of he and Michelle hugging and the caption "Four more years." This photo was posted on Nov. 6, 2012 right after his reelection, so Obama held his record for quite some time. But, instead of passing the torch gracefully, Obama's true colors really came out during the talk show.

Ellen told the president, "I don't know if you know this, but I was aiming to break your record of retweets. And I apologize for doing it, but I broke your retweet record." Obama, who made his appearance via satellite — which no doubt gave him the comfort he needed to insult the world's favorite selfie photographer — responded, "I heard about that. I thought it was a pretty cheap stunt myself. Getting a lot of celebrities in the background... Feeding them pizza."

"Cheap stunt," eh? Says the person who made fun of Zach Galifianakis for eating too much turkey in order to get people sign up for healthcare. Will the Hangover 3 insults really be remembered in the history books or were you just trying to get your Between Two Ferns appearance shared more than any one else's? It's getting a little desperate, Obama. You know that selfie wasn't a "cheap stunt," you just want your record back and I have the perfect idea.

Later in the interview, Obama talks about how if Sasha or Malia ever got a tattoo, he and Michelle would get the same one, in the same spot, take a family picture together to show off their new ink, and post it online. This is meant to be a tactic to stop his daughters from ever getting tattoos, but it would work wonders on Twitter. An Obama family matching tattoos selfie could break Ellen's record in a day. If they get tramp stamps, the record would be broken in five minutes tops.
