The Final Season Of 'Archer' Might Be Close

by Courtney Lindley

Good news and bad news: Though FX's animated comedy series, Archer, was renewed for three more seasons, which means three more years of new episodes, that renewal comes with an end date as well. According the shows' creator Adam Reed, he's planning on capping it there, meaning Season 10 of Archer will be its last. Reed told Murmur podcast, “The plan is to end Archer after season 10. I don’t know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan, is to do eight, nine, and 10 — and they’re gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes — and then wind it up.”

Additionally, Reed explained that this original intention was to wrap the show after season eight. Instead, he had some creative breakthroughs and came up with enough material for three more seasons. Regarding the rest of the show, Reed says things are “gonna be pretty different from what has come before" and that each season will be distinct from one another. So, typical Archer format?

While its ultimate demise isn't exactly great news for fans of the series, sounds like there's still a lot of ground for the titular narcissistic spy to cover. And though nothing will fill the Archer void, there's ample time to prepare for the end. One thing fans can do now is start watching other hilarious animated comedies that are similar to Archer . Below, some ideas.

1. Frisky Dingo

Also created by Adam Reed, Frisky Dingo is about a super villain named Killface and a superhero named Awesome X. The show's humor relies on a deconstruction and parodying of superhero cartoon clichés and features much of the same kind of absurd humor found in Archer.

2. BoJack Horseman

In the world of BoJack Horseman, humans and anthropomorphic animals live side by side, which makes for an endless supply of witty puns and commentary on society. But, the show's mainly about BoJack, a washed up sitcom star who's trying to remain relevant in Hollywoo (someone stole the "D" for a romantic gesture).

3. Home Movies

The show centers around Brendon, who makes home movies with his friends Melissa Robbins and Jason Penopolis for fun. He lives with his divorced mother, Paula, and his adopted baby sister, Josie, but takes up an unusual relationship with his soccer coach.

4. Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist

Dr. Katz is a professional therapist with a unique set of patients — famous comedians and actors. As you can imagine, the series is filled to the brim with jokes. Plus, Jon H Benjamin (the voice of Archer) lends his voice to Dr. Katz's 24 year old son, Ben.

5. Rick and Morty

The series follows the life and times of an alcoholic scientist (Rick) and his grandson (Morty) as they partake in interdimensional travel.

6. Venture Bros

The action and adventure series centers around the Venture clan —Hank, Dean, Dr. Rusty Venture, and Brock Sampson — and their, yeah, adventures. Most of the characters from The Venture Bros. are re-imaginings of Jonny Quest characters, comic book superheroes/villains, or pop culture figures.

7. Bob's Burgers

Bob Belcher (also voiced by H. Jon Benjamin) runs Bob's Burgers with the help of his wife and their three kids, Tina, Gene, and Louise.

Archer will return for Season 8 in 2017, but in the meantime, you've got a lot of animated catching up to do.
