Why Mustard Is The Coolest Color For Fall 2016

by Eliza Florendo

While we all may be in a relationship with black, grey, and white clothing, sometimes, a little pop of color can go a long way. Enter the mustard yellow trend. Less flashy than classic yellow, mustard yellow definitely adds a punch of color, but is closer to a neutral hue, making it more versatile and chic. Think of it as yellow's older, more stylish sister who looks good no matter what they put on.

In the fall, it's so easy to wake up, throw your hands up in the air, and give up. I can't count how many black and grey turtlenecks I have in my closet. I essentially have a uniform down: distressed jeans, neutral turtleneck, and black booties (or Timberlands for when it's raining). When I put on a little lipstick and any article of clothing that even has a hint of color, consider it a day that I've actually tried to put together an outfit.

And while The Cut has claimed that millennials love the salmon pink color that's practically on ever advertisement (think: Acne Studios, Glossier, and THINX), it seems like a new color is taking over the style world: mustard yellow. According to Who What Wear, designers like Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane, and Junya Watanabe all featured this beautiful color in their spring/summer 2016 collections. And, while of course designers have been on this trend for almost a year now, it's slowly trickled down to larger brands.

Bold, confident, and sexy, mustard yellow is definitely the it-hue of the season. Don't be surprised if you see it propping up everywhere heading into the fall, too! If you're into this trend, you're going to love these options.
