9 ‘Game of Thrones’ Recipes So You Can Feast Like You’re in Line for the Iron Throne

Brace yourselves. The fourth season of Game of Thrones is coming — and if the trailers are any indication, it’s going to be everything we ever dreamed of. Sure, it’ll be full of political discourse and historical allusion, but let’s be real, here. We’re in it for the revenge, the sex, and the food. Mostly the food. So while Arya steps up her game, Amazon-style, and the Wildlings kick ass, we’ll be tucking into a Thrones-inspired feast that’s fit for royalty. Don’t worry — we’ll save the horse heart for Khaleesi.

The Old Bear's Spiced Wine

Lord Commander Jeor Mormont doesn’t mess around when it comes to mulled wine. It has to have just the right amount of fruit and spice — but we think even the Old Bear would have approved of this recipe from Kitchen Confidante.

Cersei's Salad with Apples

Leave it to Cersei to throw a mouthwatering dinner on the brink of war. In A Clash of Kings, the cunning queen serves up a salad studded with apples and pine nuts. She’s not easy to please, but we think Mel’s Kitchen Café has just the recipe.

Bran's Beef & Barley Stew

It’s true that Bran has made some questionable culinary choices (i.e. human flesh), but he knows how to throw a feast at Winterfell. Hold off on climbing things and whip up this beef and barley stew from The Shiksa In the Kitchen instead.

Rack of Lamb at the Wall

On the desolate fringes of Westeros, things can get a little depressing. So when it’s time for Jon and Sam’s swearing-in dinner at The Wall, there’s nothing like a decadent rack of lamb to cheer up the Night’s Watch. Adventures in Cooking has the recipe.

Sansa's Buttermilk Biscuits

Dreading her meeting with Joffrey, Sansa settles her stomach with a glass of buttermilk and a few bites of a biscuit. We think a combination of the two from Some Kitchen Stories would have been in order.

King Robert's Honeyed Chicken

Now this is how you celebrate victory. Upon his arrival at Winterfell, King Robert feasts on honeyed chicken from the Stark kitchens. But since you’re probably not preparing dinner for a king, may we suggest a simpler lavender honey chicken from The Messy Baker?

Poached Pears in Highgarden

When Catelyn visits Highgarden in A Clash of Kings, she finds a land untouched by war. Which means more food, of course. Do it House of Tyrell-style and whip up these wine-poached pears by Pass the Sushi.

Sansa's Lemon Cakes

With her weakness for lemon cakes, Sansa would have been all over this recipe from Taste & Tell.

Baked Apples in King's Landing

When there’s a tourney at King’s Landing, you can always count on a feast. King Robert serves up sweetbreads and aurochs, but we have our eyes on those “baked apples, fragrant with cinnamon.” Because you can’t joust on an empty stomach, right? Thanks, A Pastry Affair!
