Why I Will Never Be Over Drake & Rihanna

by Taylor Ferber

Drake and Rihanna could be happily settled down in their own individual marriages two decades from now, and I still won't be over it. Because no matter what becomes of them, Drake and Rihanna's relationship will always be something that I believe in. After Drake's confession of affection that stopped the world at the 2016 VMAs and a sexy summer of *love,* reports claim the two are no longer "exclusive" and are seeing other people due to conflicting schedules. Drake was spotted with India Love over the weekend, and Rihanna posted an epic Instagram post shading all exes. But I won't let the Internet get the best of me; I'll always have nostalgia, Drake, and Rihanna.

First thing's first: they have been partners in business and in life, thus defining the term dream team. Not only have they collaborated a million times, but they have each other's backs like no other. At a recent show, Drake told the crowd, "I pray that you find somebody that holds you down like this woman right here." I can't. And how about the fact that they possibly, maybe have matching tattoos? That, my friends, is forever.

There's also the way he looks at her, and all of the grinding. This sexual tension cannot be faked. Whenever Drake is within a 20-foot radius of Rihanna, it's obvious that he's cast under some witchy spell, mesmerized by all that is this goddess.

Beyond their sexual chemistry, it's clear that they truly respect each other. Drake can't stop singing praises about Ri, especially recently. When declaring his love at the VMAs while presenting Rihanna with the Vanguard Award, he had me tearing up when he said, on live TV, that "she's someone [he's] been in love with since [he] was 22 years old." After recently performing together, he was caught on camera saying, "Shout out to the most beautiful, talented woman I've ever seen in my life. She goes by the name of Rihanna... I'm gettin' my heart broken." What's amazing is that he's doing most of the talking, while she sits back and graciously takes it like the queen she is. Real goals, in my opinion.

But perhaps the most significant reason Drake and Rihanna will never die for me is because they've come such a long way, grew up in the business, and made impact all this time together. They met years years ago at an unnamed friend's birthday party, and the story of that meeting is way too cute:

[Rihanna] was the first girl with any fame that paid me any mind. You spend days reading about this person in the magazines. All of a sudden you have this number-one song and you're at some birthday party and there she is. And you're just some naive kid from Toronto staying in some sh*tty-ass hotel who got invited to this party on a whim. That's just how it happened.

Um, that's adorable. And what's even better is that they still have the best time together. If their rumored relationship was a publicity stunt, it'd be an awfully aggressive one to last this long.

Show business has the rise and fall of artists, fame, and couples on a daily basis. But a pair that goes back as far as Drake and RiRi? They're here to stay. If not in the tabloids, then in my heart.
