Peter Dinklage Has Never Read 'Game of Thrones,' Fears the Worst for Tyrion — VIDEO

There are plenty of ways a celebrity can choose to prepare for a role. You can come with the experience already built in, like Elizabeth Hurley has for The Royals. You can go through eight months of training to upgrade your body from pro-wrestler to Hercules like Dwayne Johnson. Or, if you're Peter Dinklage, you can admit to the author of the source material that you've never actually read his books. Dinklage confessed he never read George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books on The Late Show Wednesday night, saying that he "started to read it, but [he] got confused."

He goes on to mention that the series that inspired HBO's Game of Thrones is made up of "amazing books," though admitted that his confession to Martin didn't go well. He managed to make it out of that unscathed, but can the same be said for the future of his character?

Though no one's saying that Martin is an evil dictator who loves to get us attached to people that he's just going to slaughter in some horrifying way a few scenes or a book later — who am I kidding? That's exactly what I'm saying. For that reason, it's no surprise that Dinklage is a little worried that this revelation won't spell anything good for his Game of Thrones character, Tyrion Lannister. Then again, so far, Tyrion has been abandoned, beaten, imprisoned, scarred, and disinherited, so an early death may just be a bit of a mercy for him.

The show does occasionally diverge from the source material, after all, and only time will tell if admitting to the creator of the character that you're playing that you've never read his books is an act of bravery or stupidity. Until then, be sure to check out the video below to get what could be your last look at Tyrion Lannister.
