Shay Mitchell's 'PLL' Goodbye Will Make You Cry

by Emily Lackey

Time to break out the tissues, Pretty Little Liars fans. The final episode of the series has been filmed, and to the honor their time on the show, a number of cast and crew members are posting pictures and videos to social media to say their goodbyes. But none are going to get you right in the gut quite like Shay Mitchell’s will. Because Mitchell’s goodbye letter to Pretty Little Liars will bring every fan — big or small — to absolute tears. But take heart, my friends. Her emotional outpouring is also comforting. Because as you begin the grieving process of this incredible show, it’s nice to know that someone else is going through it with you.

Admittedly it’s a tough video to watch. Minutes after wrapping her last scene for PLL , Mitchell retreated to her dressing room to read aloud a letter that she wrote to the fans, cast, and crew of the show as a final goodbye. Thankfully she filmed it, because I don’t know that I could go through this sadness alone. It’s comforting that Mitchell opened up about all of the emotions that she is feeling, as she says her final goodbyes to a show she's starred on since 2010.

Here's a tear-inducing excerpt from the letter she shared:

"Sad, anxious, excited, terrified, inspired, gratified, nervous, unsure, proud, upset, accomplished, relieved, devastated, lucky. I didn't know it was possible to feel so much at once, yet I sit here with all my feelings. It feels like the last day of school with just an extra bit of emptiness. Our show ending is such a weird, unique thing that I have only experienced from where you all are sitting: the viewer's side. I remember shows I watched growing up ending and all that came along with a series finale, yet where I am seated now is so different."

Speaking to PLL's impact, she said, "I don't know what my life would've looked like without Pretty Little Liars. It has changed me in more ways than I can attempt to count." You can watch the full video below. Just a warning that it may make you as emotional as Mitchell.

Still, it's helpful to know that you’re not the only one feeling so many feelings over a show that has touched your life so incredibly, isn't it? I think so, too.
