Beyonce's 2016 CMAs Look Blew Up The Internet

by Jessica Thomas

Tonight's Country Music Awards, or CMAs, were the 50th anniversary of the show, so you know the awards' organizers and performers were going to pull out all the stops for the 3-hour show on ABC. And although seeing Beyonce on the CMAs was something I never expected to see, there were rumors swirling for weeks that the singer would be making an appearance at a show celebrating a genre that's a little different than the one she typically performs.

Turns out, the rumors were true. About two thirds of the way through the show, straight after a commercial break, Queen Bey herself did indeed appear on stage. Decked out in a very Beyonce-esque silver gown, the singer came on for a super high energy performance of her song "Daddy Lessons." Beyonce performed alongside the Dixie Chicks, who've covered the song a few times on their recent tour.

It was a pretty big deal for a couple reasons: First of all, after 2015's genre-crossing performance by Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake, the stakes were high for a collab of a similar calibre this year. You pretty much don't get a bigger star in the world than Beyonce, but this was also the first time the Dixie Chicks have performed on the show in years.

Predictably, Twitter freaked out about this powerhouse collaboration.

Let's just hope that this is just one of many times the CMAs highlights performers from different genres.
