12 Celebs That Wish They Could Hold Court On 'GOT'

by Jordana Lipsitz

To call Game of Thrones a cultural phenomenon would be a understatement. GoT is what would happen if two phenomena fell in love and created a giant baby phenomonster. People from all across the world tune in to watch the popular HBO series each episode, and everyone is obsessed, including celebrities. While some stars just keep their GoT obsession to cosplay, like Kristen Bell and Dax Shepherd, or gift-giving, like Jay Z and Beyoncé, there are a few stars who wish they could actually appear in the hit series.

Some of these celebs have auditioned but not been cast, or didn't accept a role when they had the chance and later regretted it, while some haven't even made it into the realm of appearing in the show. They are all united by one thing, though — a deep desire to be involved in one of the most exciting television shows of all time. Ah, the stars, they truly are like us. Here are a few celebs who would love to star on Game of Thrones.

1. Sam Claflin

Clalfin, who stars as Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games franchise, told CinemaBlend in 2014 that he didn't make it into the one series he was hoping to get into, GoT, though he auditioned for both Viserys and Jon Snow. Odair jokingly claimed that he and "every British actor" auditioned for the HBO series.

2. Danny Dyer

Dyer is hugely popular in the United Kingdom, most famous for his role on the long-running British soap EastEnders as family man Mick Carter. And he's also a massive GoT fan. The actor claimed on the Jonathan Ross Show that he has tried (and failed) three times to get into the series. The other guest on the show, Dame Diana Rigg — who plays Lady Olenna Tyrell on GoT — joked with Dyer, "I'll put in a word for you as long as you lose the cockney accent."

3. Sam Heughan

Outlander star Sam Heughan can take a look at Dyer's attempts and scoff, as the actor told Vulture in 2014 that he auditioned for GoT seven times for several parts including King Renly and Loras Tyrell. The good news is that because he didn't cast, he went on to become a lovable hunk on Outlander. Maybe things really do happen for a reason.

4. Brittany Snow

Pitch Perfect star Snow has a very real obsession with GoT, specifically one character, Jon Snow, who happens to share her father's name. While Snow has not *technically* expressed an interest to actually perform on the series, she has tweeted about a desire to be BFFS with Kit Harington, the actor who plays Jon... and what better way to do it than signing on for a role?

5. Daniel Radcliffe

Radcliffe got his start acting as Harry Potter in one popular franchise, and would love to spend the end of his career (and life) on Game of Thrones. The actor told Digital Spy, "I would love to [appear on GoT]. If they want to just bring me in and f*cking kill me, I would be so happy to do that."

6. Amanda Peet

GoT is so difficult to get a part in that showrunner David Benioff won't even cast his own wife, actor Amanda Peet. Peet is a such a fan of GoT that she revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that if her husband killed off Jon Snow, she would divorce him — so of course she also wants a cameo appearance. At the 2014 Thrones premiere party, Vulture convinced Benioff that his wife deserve a cameo, but we have yet to see it.

7. Ed Sheeran

In April 2015, singer Ed Sheeran revealed to The Sun that he was going to "hound" the producers of GoT about appearing in the series. Apparently, "there were talks ages ago of me being an extra, which would have been cool. But every time they shoot it’s the time I tour in the U.K." Sorry Ed, you might have missed your chance.

8. The Workaholics Cast

While this audition for Season 4 of Game of Thrones might be a joke, there's probably a grain of truth. Right?

9. Izzy Meikle-Small

In 2013, the young actor from the TV version of Great Expectations and Snow White and the Huntsman told The Telegraph that she was one of the final two actors possibly slated to play Sansa Stark. As she put it, “I was a bit sad, because the show’s massive, but I’m not that unhappy, because they all show a lot of flesh, don’t they? I don’t think my parents would be happy.”

10. Perdita Weeks

Perdita Weeks is now familiar to fans for her role as Mary Boleyn in Showtime's period series The Tudors but she could have been in the iconic Red Wedding scene on GoT, as she was cast as Roslin Frey, The Daily Mail reports. Unfortunately, the actor had a previous commitment so she had to cancel, but when the project was postponed, she "rang the producers to beg for it back" but "it was too late." Oh, well.

11. Dominic West

The actor famous for his role on The Wire as the destructive detective Jimmy McNulty admitted to The Huffington Post in 2012 that HBO offered him a a part in GoT when the show was just starting out. At the time, he didn't take the role because with four kids at home, he's "reluctant to be away from home for a long time." But he also admitted he's sure to "regret" the decision, conceding, "...unfortunately, I hadn’t seen it, but my nephew and his father said, ‘Gosh, Game of Thrones is the only great show on!’ And I felt terrible, because I’d just turned them down." Such a McNulty move.

12. Gillian Anderson

While the X-Files actor seems confident in her decision to turn down roles in both Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey, she's gotten a lot of criticism from her loved ones. As she told Express, "my 18-year-old cannot believe I’ve turned down things she loves." Teenagers can be kind of brutal.

With or without these actors, Game of Thrones is a groundbreaking and heart-pounding series. While it would be nice to see these stars' impacts on the series, I wouldn't change a thing. Is it Season 7 yet?
