Is Kat Von D's Alchemist Palette Worth It?

Kat Von D's latest new product is quite the sight for sore eyes: Dubbed the Alchemist Palette, the iridescent case houses four equally iridescent duochrome multi-purpose eyeshadows. It's gorgeous, but it retails for $32, which might be considered steep. So, is Kat Von D's Alchemist Palette worth it?

I'm going to go with yes on this one. Sure, $32 is a touch on the expensive side for four shadows — but they appear to be generously sized judging from Kat Von D's Snapchats (which makes sense, since they double as highlighters), and it's certainly cheaper than purchasing singles — if you break it down, it comes out to $8 per shade, which is comparable with most drugstore eyeshadows.

Plus, there are so many uses for each shade — in addition to their dual function as eyeshadow-highlighters, and they can be also be layered over any lipstick or eyeshadow to transform the look. Von D took to Snapchat to show off what each of the four shades — (Green) Emerald, (Ultra-Violet) Amethyst, (Pink) Opal, and (Blue) Sapphire — look like layered over her signature black Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Witches, and the results are as transformative as lead turned to gold (not that they were ever lead to begin with. Maybe it's more like turning gold into rose gold).

Even just counting the shadows on their own vs. layered over black, that's eight whole different looks. Add in just about every eyeshadow and lipstick shade you own, and multiply it by the four shades and the possibilities are near-endless — and don't forget that they can be used as highlighters as well! Suffice it to say, it's definitely versatile enough that you'll really get your money's worth.

So, now that we've all decided that the Alchemist Palette is something of a must-have, all that's left to do is wait until the thing makes its way onto Sephora shelves in December.

At least Kat Von D has a lot of things to look forward to while you wait for her new innovative palette to be released — there's also the Better Together collaboration with Too Faced coming up, as well as the recently launched Lock-It brushes and the ultra-covetable Everlasting Obsession Vault. Basically? Bring on the Kat Von D!
