No Hard Feelings For Bella Hadid & The Weeknd

by Maitri Suhas

Sometimes even for the rich and famous and beautiful, love just ain't enough. On Nov. 10, it was reported that The Weeknd and Bella Hadid reportedly split up after a year and a half of (very private) dating. (At the time of the report, Bustle reached out to Hadid and The Weeknd's reps for comment, but did not receive a response.) According to People, there were no scandalous affairs or prolonged heartaches that might fit The Weeknd's moody ouvre; the breakup was reportedly just because of busy work schedules — which is sadder! But are Bella Hadid and The Weeknd still friends? Thankfully, it sounds like they are, which is lucky, because they still gotta work together.

A source told People that Hadid and The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) just couldn't coordinate their schedules, what with The Weeknd working on "finishing and promoting his album," Starboy. But the source also had comforting news for fans: "[The Weeknd and Bella Hadid] still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends."

That'll come in handy in the next few weeks, because there are a couple places where they may cross paths, starting with the American Music Awards on Nov. 20. Hadid's sister, Gigi Hadid is co-hosting the show with Saturday Night Live alum Jay Pharoah, and The Weeknd was announced as a performer (along with Ariana Grande, John Legend, and Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, and more) earlier this month, so there's a good chance Hadid will be there to support her sibling in her big gig.

If Hadid does show up to support Gigi, she won't be walking the red carpet with The Weeknd, which tugs a little at my heartstrings. Remember when they made their red carpet debut at the Grammy Awards in February? In those simpler times fans simply had to muse on whether or not they might have been secretly engaged.

After the AMAs, Tesfaye and Hadid will meet on the stage at the Victoria's Secret fashion show on Dec. 5. It's Hadid's first year walking in the show, and The Weeknd will be performing. Oddly enough, The Weeknd is the member of the former couple who has been in the show before, because he also performed last year. Even if you're still super close with your ex, it seems like it'd be a little distressing seeing them literally everywhere, especially when millions of people are watching. But maybe The Weeknd and Hadid have just reached that higher plane of maturity.
