Why Is Kanye Instagraming Photos Of Clothing?

by Amanda Richards

Something very peculiar started happening around 4:30 p.m. EST on Kanye West's Instagram page. The rapper, known for his entertaining tangential speeches and threats to run for president (and his music, of course), started posting dozens of photos of clothing without comment — but why?

None of the images has a photo caption, and many of them appear to be old advertisements or snaps of fashion books. Of course, the mystery swirling around it all might be the effect that West was going for. It's possible that the photos could indicate something about an upcoming Yeezy collection, or that they're just some of West's #ootd inspo. Simply put, the answer to this riddle remains to be seen.

As of 6:30 p.m. EST, West (or whoever is using West's account) was still posting photos — up to 75 and counting. The only non-clothing related photo on the page is an image of a car at dusk, posted inexplicably by West about nine weeks ago.

Though there's been zero explanation (and virtually no media commentary) on this, there's definitely something ominous about the whole thing — especially when you see the images as a collective entity. Check out a sampling of West's 'grams below.

Though there's not much information to explain this unusual phenomenon, one could speculate this could be West's way of reaching out to the world after an unpleasant tirade on Nov. 18.

According to the New York Times, "Kanye West likened himself to Donald J. Trump at a concert on Saturday in California before tumbling into a 17-minute, free-associative speech addressing radio programmers, MTV, his friends and collaborators Jay Z and Beyoncé, Hillary Clinton, Mark Zuckerberg and more. After getting an array of grievances off his chest — from real-world politics to awards-show politics — Mr. West ended the performance with a microphone drop, having played only three songs, leaving fans bitter and upset, according to reactions on social media."

Whatever the reason, it's probably best to just observe these oddly curated images at a careful distance and wait for Pablo himself to provide what will likely be an even curiouser explanation. After all, usually West at least tries to give the world a method to his madness.

Stay tuned for updates on this, and if you're uninspired by the whole thing, perhaps a Kanye shrug is the best reaction to it all.
