Wé Debuted The Ultimate R&B Anthem On 'The Voice'

by Jessica Molinari

She doesn't need your wishes. W é McDonald debuted her original single "Wishes" on The Voice Season 11 and absolutely slayed, as is expected. While the song was not what I expected McDonald to sing, the lyrics were just right for the 17-year-old. But of course they were, because they were written specifically with her in mind. The song is the ultimate R&B anthem and is bound to be on the Top 40 in no time.

McDonald is known for her over-the-top, diva-esque vocals, but "Wishes" showcases a side of her we have rarely seen. Because "Wishes" is more about the lyrics and less about the vocals, it gives the Team Alicia singer a chance to really show off her personality. The lyrics present the message to be yourself and to stand up for who you are, a message that McDonald has represented since day one. But with "Wishes," McDonald now has a vehicle to present that message in. There's no doubt a McDonald album would deliver single after single with a similar message, which is something so rare and important for an artist to produce in today's world.

McDonald is both the youngest and the only female left in the competition, but that doesn't mean she's going to sit down and let the boys take the win. In fact, it's given her even more reason to bring it in the Final Four. McDonald was an early front-runner, but she's no doubt maintained the momentum she had early on in the game. The 17-year-old deserves to be a star and, after her performances tonight, she will absolutely achieve that fate. Win or lose, McDonald is an artist who will be successful in the industry and who will use her music to inspire a positive change in today's society.
