Is Kanye West Running For President In 2024?
Tuesday has been a riveting day for Kanye West, to say the least. The rapper emerged into the public eye after being hospitalized, with none other than president-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York City. Yes, this actually happened. It wasn't so shocking considering West supported Trump on his Saint Pablo Tour and talked about running for president when accepting the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 VMAs. Following his visit with Trump, West returned to Twitter after a two-month hiatus to explain his meeting with ambiguous tweets about what's to come. Is Kanye West actually going to run for president in the next election? I saw the tweets, and I wouldn't be surprised if #KanyeForPresident could actually be a reality.
It hasn't even been two weeks since being released from the hospital for exhaustion, and West returned to the spotlight in true Yeezy form. The rapper has been off-the-radar since going off on Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Hillary Clinton in a rant on his Saint Pablo Tour, which was cancelled shortly after. On the tour, West praised Trump and said things like, "I’m taking his lead," "Obama couldn’t make America great because he couldn’t be him to be who he was," and "I didn't vote... but if I would've voted, I would've voted on Trump." The internet was freaking out since West's meeting, so he took to Twitter to semi-explain.
First, the simple yet vague reason he wanted to meet:
Then, he got a tad more in-depth:
Thereafter was a tweet that I find valid and responsible, tbh:
All was going swimmingly, and then the bomb dropped:
What did that mean? It meant West is running for president in the election, that's what. I mean, what else could it have meant? The world knew West was ready for office for some time now. People thought he was joking at the 2015 Video Music Awards when he claimed, "It's about ideas, bro. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth. And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president."
America may have laughed it off, but now...
And from the looks of it, West's meeting with Trump was smooth sailing. The two smiled, shared a handshake, posed for photos together, as Trump called West "a good man" and told him, "Take care of yourself, I'll see you soon."
This bromance has been some time coming. Trump replied to West's remarks at the 2015 VMAs saying, "Kanye West, I love him... Now, maybe in a few years I will have to run against him, I don't know. So I'll take that back." Even West's wife Kim Kardashian spoke to his desire to run for president. "I don’t know how serious he is about it. We’ll see…," she said. In the meantime, West proved he's keeping busy in politics.
To be continued.
