Liz Cheney Has Some Harsh Words For Nancy Pelosi

by Caitlin Mahon

Liz Cheney has some stern words for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi over recent comments made about her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney. Pelosi recently told CNN that Cheney was responsible for the excruciating interrogation tactics used by the CIA, saying she thinks he's "proud of it." In response, Liz Cheney says Pelosi was briefed about the program, but now claims she didn't know about it.

"Frankly, Mrs. Pelosi is somebody who was briefed on the program," Cheney says, according to the Huffington Post. "And I have to say that when I heard those comments yesterday, I was reminded of something that Margaret Tatcher once said about one of her political opponents: Mrs. Pelosi's problem is her spine doesn't seem to reach her brain."

Cheney, who dropped her Senate Primary Campaign in Wyoming in January due to family health issues, says this is just a way for Pelosi to place blame on others for something she, like many others, supported in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

“We’ve got too many in Washington who were all in favor of doing everything necessary to defend the nation after 9/11, who now seem to be really not interested in looking at the facts, but really just looking for a way, frankly, to cast blame and say things that aren’t true about those brave men and women,” Cheney says, according to CBS.

The CIA report was declassified last week in an 11-3 vote by the Senate Intelligence Committee, which highlights brutal interrogation techniques used by the CIA on detainees that didn't lead to much intelligence at all. Those interrogation tactics eluded Congress for years, and some of the 6,300-page report may be made public eventually.

In a statement, Committee Chair Dianne Feinstein says the report revealed that the CIA made "serious mistakes."

"The report exposes brutality that stands in stark contrast to our values as a nation," Feinstein says, according to the Huffington Post. "It chronicles a stain on our history that must never again be allowed to happen."

Cheney might want to watch out; we're sure Pelosi will have a few choice words for her, too.
