Who will Amanda Play in 'Peter Pan'?

by Mallory Schlossberg

So, it looks like Amanda Seyfried has joined the cast of Peter Pan, the upcoming, still-untitled new adaptation of J.M. Barrie's classic story Peter Pan. She will be playing the role of Mary in Joe Wright's high budget film, which begins production photography later this month. The movie is poised to be very high profile, with a star studded cast to boot.

This new adaptation offers a new origin story for these beloved characters. It will follow the trajectory of an orphan played by Levi Miller, who winds up in Neverland, who, through trials, tribulations, adventures and misadventures, discovers that he is destined become that immortal character, Peter Pan.

Seyfried will reunite with her Les Miserables adoptive father Hugh Jackman, who will play the villainous pirate Blackbeard. The cast also includes Rooney Mara, who will play Tiger Lily, despite grumblings because Rooney Maray is, uh, not Native American, and there are plenty of talented Native American actresses on this face of this planet. (Mara is talented without a doubt, but still.)

The cast will also feature Garrett Hedlund as Captain Hook, and Adeel Akhtar as Smee.

Seyfried's definitely pretty busy; she's currently got A Million Ways To Die In The West coming out next month, as well as Ted 2 , which is due for release next year (Seth MacFarlane and Seyfried must get along). Must this busy streak have something to do with the ten year anniversary of Mean Girls? Probably not, but it's no coincidence — her talent was recognizable back in Karen Smith's high school days.
