The World's Most Popular Drunk Foods

The jury may still be out on whether or not eating yeast before you drink helps stave off intoxication, but one thing never changes: When people get drunk, they get hungry. But not all drunk foods are created equal, and drinkers all over the globe prefer vastly different snacks after they’ve been hitting the bars.

Thanks to BuzzFeed’s latest video, we can now get an up-close-and-personal look at the types of foods preferred by drunk people around the world. Perhaps unsurprisingly, those of us in the good ol’ US of A — or at least, the carnivores among us — prefer pepperoni pizza; as someone who spent an embarrassing amount of time at Koronet in college eating slices of pizza that were quite literally bigger than my head after a night out, I can confirm that this is, in fact, true. Although I’ve got to say, I would actually rather be eating Brazil’s or China’s drunk foods of choice. Brazil’s peppery shrimp stew over deep-fried batter balls sounds amazing; and as for China’s chuan’r skewers? Well, who doesn’t like food on a stick?

Of course, these eats may not necessarily be the best things for you to consume when you’re in, shall we say, a state; remember back in February when Thrillist spoke to registered dietician Andrew Chernus about what you should definitely avoid eating while hungover? Diner food, breakfast sandwiches, and piles of meat are all huge no-nos, so… goodbye, barbecued skewers. It was nice knowing you. But hey, at least avocado and eggs are still fair game, right?
