HBD, Angie! 11 Times She Looked Great In Not Black

by Mary Avant

There are few women — or people, at that — in Hollywood with a resume as impressive as Angelina Jolie’s. The Maleficent star is not only an amazingly talented actress and film director, but she’s also won countless humanitarian awards and founded her own charity with fiancée Brad Pitt, all while helping raise six — yes, six — children.

Oh, and that’s all without mentioning the fact that Jolie is one of the most consistently well-dressed, regal, and stunning figures on the red carpet — a reputation she’s been crafting and refining since ditching her grunge, wild-child image (along with former hubby Billy Bob Thornton) in favor of dark, daring, and sleek numbers that outshine everyone thanks to both their minimally chic style and the effortlessly glamorous air with which she wears them.

And though there’s no denying that the brunette bombshell loves her all-black ensembles — and as unbelievable as they always look on her, why wouldn’t she? — she’s also proven over the years that she can pull off looks with a little color, too. So in celebration of the actress and humanitarian’s 39th birthday, let's all take a moment to reflect on the 11 times Jolie looked absolutely stunning while not wearing her fail-safe black hue.

Hitting the red carpet with her longtime love, Jolie stunned in her delicately beaded Elie Saab Couture gown, whose beige hue was complemented with a nude lip and subtly smoky brown eye.

Jolie was an absolute vision in her peplum-waist and flared-hem Ralph & Russo dress, which she made extra chic with on-trend white pumps and an oversized metallic belt.

Sure, she may be wearing a floor-length black robe, but it's the dark khaki Saint Laurent gown underneath — with its draped boho fit and gorgeous tassel detailing — was the real star of this ensemble.

In a look that was classic on bottom and anything but boring on top, Jolie was glowing and statuesque in her flower-embellished Ralph & Russo gown, which got the perfect pop of color with her signature red lip.

5. At the 2012 Berlinale Film Festival

Jolie was a glam, glittering sight to behold at the annual film festival in her wrapped-bodice, long-sleeved Jenny Packham gown.

6. At the 2012 Golden Globe Awards

With its luxe silk fabric, thigh-high slit, ruched detailing, and fold-over embellishment, Jolie's Atelier Versace gown couldn't have been more of a show stopper.

Matching her perfect pout to the hue of her red-hot Atelier Versace dress, Jolie was sleek and stunning in a minimalist slip dress.

I have absolutely no shame in admitting that Jolie's sequined, emerald green Atelier Versace gown is hands-down my favorite look the actress has ever worn.

9. At The Tree of Life Los Angeles premiere

Looking like a smoking-hot Grecian goddess in her draped, one-shoulder Jenny Packham gown, Jolie made even the simplest gown look like a total work of art.

10. At The Tourist New York City premiere

Jolie showed off her famous legs in a beautifully draped Atelier Versace number, which got an extra punch of sex appeal thanks to her ample cleavage and voluminous tresses.

The actress ruled the Cannes Film Festival red carpet in her nude, draped Versace gown, which she perfectly punctuated with a color-drenched red lip.
