Yes, Nicolas Cage Knows He's a Meme

by Rachel Simon

It's hard to remember what the world was like before the Nicolas Cage memes took over. What did the Internet do for entertainment? Was Cage just another famous actor, one who starred in a mix of good and not so good movies? Did he do meme-worthy themes, and were they just ignored? The Tumblr-loved version of the actor has been in our lives for so long that it feels like the only image of him that's ever existed — and apparently, Cage himself is starting to feel the same way. In a new photo, the actor appears to have embraced his Internet-invented image, as Cage is seen wearing a T-shirt featuring a meme of his face. Oh, and he's hanging out with a sideburns-clad Andrew Dice Clay and the members of Guns N' Roses. It's a weird photo.

Posted by the band on their Facebook page early Sunday morning, the photo shows Cage clad in a cowboy hat, Mardi Gras beads, and a shirt depicting a meme of his face — you know the one. He is also sporting gun holsters, cowboy pants, and a very large ring. He is also drinking a glass of wine, and holding what looks like a cane, or walking stick. Next to him is the actor Andrew Dice Clay, in far more appropriate rock concert gear, and showing off striking gray sideburns. Since Guns N' Roses posted the photo, it can be assumed that members of the band were just out of view, unless Cage and Clay routinely hang out backstage at random concerts, which could totally be possible.

Take a moment to soak in the insanity of this photo, and to applaud Cage on finally embracing the image of himself that the rest of the world did years ago. If he can't be "Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage" anymore, "Internet's favorite meme-creator Nicolas Cage" is a pretty close second. He's earned the title, and it's about time he started being proud.
